Billy Joe Saunders Exposes Himself, Then Golden Boy Exposes Him Too (NSFW Spotlight)
Folks, I have seen a lot of things at weigh-ins. I've seen fighters slap, hug, kiss, bite, and more than a few strip scenes, but this is a new chain of events for me. Today, about 8 hours ago, Golden Boy Boxing's Facebook page released uncensored footage of Billy Joe Saunders, who has had issues at weigh-ins before, caught in group dyslexia! First, David Lemieux must re-weigh himself after taking his underwear off, with the standard two helpers covering him from the audience. This is fairly normal. Then, in comes Billy Joe, yapping like an excited pooch, yelling about Lemieux getting weighed again. So, Lemieux weighs himself yet again to show that yes, definitely, he made the weight, no funny business.
Now, Billy Joe, without first weighing himself WITH his underwear on, steps to the scale, yapping, and immediately pulls off his undershorts, exposing himself to the audience, THEN proceeds, in the blink of a type of eye, backwardly, to cover his genitalia with his hand, and only then, as if everyone in the room realizes they're operating in reverse, the two helpers put the cover in front of him to shield the audience and protect them from the undoubted trauma. I can't say the pre-fight entertainment has been without humour. To top it off, Golden Boy not bothering to censor it on their page-...I don't know what to say. Even HBO and Showtime would likely have censored the few frames of Gypsy peekaboo. We have entered a new age in sport, ladies and gentlemen.

Al Bernstein Becomes Al Burnstein For Teddy and Stephen (Social Media Spotlight)
ESPN's Teddy Atlas and Stephen A. Smith had another dramatic play, after ESPN nailed a mega p4p event in Vasyl Lomachenko VS Guillermo Rigondeaux. It was a play which I greatly enjoyed for its over-the-top absurdity. But the excellent Al Bernstein...not a fan of this style. At least, that is what I take away from his Twitter feed.
Ya gotta love it.

Jose Ribalta Believes The Sun Can Cure EVERYTHING?
I like to keep an eye on any seemingly legitimate account of boxers on Facebook, Twitter, etc. As best as I can tell, a man who fought a who's who of the heavyweight division for many years, Jose "El Nino" Ribalta, has been very vocal on Facebook, making sure to give the skinny on his personal experiences, on many occasions. Well, this one's a doozy, and strays a bit beyond ring talk. He says recently:
In plain text: "My .facebook friends, for those of you who have cancer or aids or any other body sickness. I tell you that being under the sun for three six hour streight. I guarantee that you will have a great chance of being heald by the sun. So please before you do this action just read about how powerful the sun is and how many sickness it will cure. Becauase is great for all kind of deseas that are body experience. So plesse remain under the sun for about at least three hours. Because I stay for about seven hours at least seven hours long, but I tell three hours for at least a month and five days a week you will feel great and your sickness gone."
https://www.facebook.com/jose.ribalta/posts/1315064441856895
As you can see, he goes on to defend this opinion when questioned by saying:
"David Bates,so then God is not who I thought he was. Because if you believe that foolishness, well then all African slaves had cancer. Men make things up. Even other nationalities that became slaves did not have cancer, maybe they died because of the hard work that was given to them, but never cancer was mention, all these sickness begin because the love of money. Because aids was intended for Afrcans from what I know."
"During slavery days, masters were dying but not the slaves, only when they werr being killed."
I'm sure he means well, although I might take that with a salt shaker. A few grains may not cover you as well as sunscreen. File under "Social Media Spotlight."

The Hillyard Hammer's 80's Cred: Social Media Spotlight
32-year-old cuddly journeyman Chauncy Welliver, aka The Hillyard Hammer, amusingly upped his 80's cred with this Facebook post about Matthew Modine and 1985 cult classic Vision Quest.
Plain text: "This guy really helped me before my fights. His jump rope scene in Vision Quest got the blood flowing before a match. GO LOUDEN! AKA Matthew Modine"

Damage Report, With Ruslan Provodnikov: Quote Spotlight
Last night, in a grueling, brutal, bloody affair, Lucas Matthysse used his superior diversity to win a war with Ruslan Provodnikov on HBO's terrific card, which included standout talent Terence Crawford coming up in weight to fight 140-pound prospect Thomas Dulorme. Provodnikov marched forward, all night, refusing to go out, refusing to go down, refusing to be pushed back. The price he paid for this war? According to Provodnikov, yet another instance of the same horrifying side effect he'd received for his troubles against fellow blood-and-guts warrior Timothy Bradley. He posted this, on his official Instagram account (if squeamish, please don't focus on the first picture and scroll down to the comments image):
Source/Image Credit: https://instagram.com/p/1pb6iBskNi/
Plain text of quote: "I want to say I'm sorry to all my fans! I lost tonight, and I felt like I could've won this fight. I almost had him, but the fight happened the way it happened. A lot of respect for Lucas, he was the better fighter tonight. One more fight in my career when I did my doping test I had black urine, the first one was against Tim Bradley..I hope everybody saw what they expected from this fight."
There you have it. If the gaping cut above his left eye weren't reminder enough of what these brave athletes give to the fights, this is the second time Provodnikov has confessed to having black urine after a boxing match. This is the reality of the physical tolls that the most determined fighters can not just receive, but endure to the end of the contest without giving up hope of victory. These are the unnerving symptoms of going through hell in the ring. Best wishes to both men and their health and congratulations to both on the amount of determination they put on display. It was a memorable night. Unfortunately, it's also a memorable picture of Ruslan's black urine sample. But from what I regularly read on the Internet forums, some fans need a reminder like this of the bravery and demands of being a boxer to fix their perspective. Respect and appreciation, my friends.
