A Reference List For Boxers & PED/Banned Substance Allegations & Test Results

This page is going to be as full a sourced list as we can for your reference on fighters who have been caught or alleged to have used banned substances, whether assumed recreational drugs or performance-enhancing drugs. If you want something on here in a hurry, leave a comment. If something is wrong, please leave a comment, and if reasonable, a link to information you want in.

Most of these are officially recognized, but I'm trying to include asterisks where it's a lot of smoke with no fire officially. The fighters are meant to all be linked to their Boxrec pages with sources to the positive test coverage. This is not a judgment of the fighters, adjudication of their cases and whether excuses or reasons are plausible. It's just the red flags out on various guys. Some of these are from dishonour, in my opinion.

Current fighters listed: 76

He was later drilled about this when attempting to make a bout with Zab Judah, by Mr. Judah, who wanted additional tests, back in 2008. Mosley passed his professional tests, but admitted to this usage in court.

Substances: Diuretics, chlorothiazide and hydrochlorothiazide, leading up to a scheduled match with Deontay Wilder. (2017)

After knocking out Lateef Kayode in one round, the result was overturned to a no contest, because of Ortiz's failed drug test. Ortiz tested postive in a voluntarily provided urine sample before the fight, for nandrolone, according to NSAC.

Teper, Erkan

Teper is under suspicion for drostanolone, clenbuterol, testosterone, growth hormone and Methandrostenolone in his bouts after a raid on his apartment and a supposed positive test for both his bout with David Price and Newfel Ouatah. Further controversy in the amount of time it took to bring these results to the public.

Substance: hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic called a "masking agent"
Thompson actually publicly advocated for legalization of doping in boxing, so, this isn't very shocking.

Sources:

Toney, James

James was written up in The Los Angeles Times and The New York Times.

Plead: Not Guilty. "I don't do drugs, period."

Reasoning: Result of medications prescribed after surgical repair of ruptured left biceps and triceps tendons.

Substance: Nandrolone, anabolic steroid

Backlash: The only reason James isn't thought to be a major heavyweight titlist is because after decisively defeating John Ruiz for the WBA title, the decision was changed from a unanimous decision for Toney to a no decision. It would've made James a four-weight major titlist across five weight classes, from middleweight to heavyweight (skipping light heavyweight).
