Murat Gassiev's Highleet Reel KO Against Jordan Shimmell: GIF Spotlight

PBC and FS1 delivered a card in May of 2016 where then 22-0 prospect Murat Gassiev took on fellow prospect 20-1 Jordan Shimmell. While a good match on paper, it wasn't particularly competitive.

Gassiev KO1 Shimmell. Gassiev is now looking to try and unify all the major cruiserweight claims to the championship against Oleksandr Usyk, with his reputation as a puncher proving more and more weighty as he goes. Jordan Shimmell hasn't fought since this match.

Deontay Wilder's Unstoppable Funk Returns For Johann Duhaupas: GIF Spotlight

I think we've covered how unstoppable the funk of Deontay Wilder really is, and it did not stop when he faced European heavyweight champion Johann Duhaupas, of France in September 2015. Wilder was defending his major world heavyweight title against the large Frenchman. A wild fest of sluggery aired on the PBC broadcast that night. Wilder was lifting himself up off the ground with his own final punches to force referee Jack Reiss to stop the fight.

Duhaupas took a terrible beating but landed a surprising amount of leather himself. He went on to beat Robert Helenius and seems to be scheduled to fight three times this year against unannounced opponents. Wilder is still defending his claim and recently annihilated Bermane Stiverne into a meme, and is about a month away from facing arguably his best opponent yet in Luis Ortiz. I've wanted that fight for some time and am glad it looks to be happening now.

B. J. Flores Pays His Respects To Gennady Golovkin: Quote Spotlight

During the Post-Fight PBC broadcast on NBC Sports (a slightly confusing programming matter), cruiserweight boxer and regular NBC Sports commentator B. J. Flores made a nice reference to Gennady Golovkin. It was during the Jonathan Guzman VS Christian Esquivel match. It is mentioned by his co-commentator during the second round that Guzman was being more of a boxer than he'd expected and he thought with all his knockouts that he'd come out swinging. B. J. responds by saying:

"He kinda takes his time, and I like that. You know, but you look at a guy like Gennady Golovkin. You look at his knockout percentage. He doesn't come out and rush the knockout. He systematically breaks his opponents down and does it through technical boxing and relentless pressure.  So, I'm not saying Guzman is in any form a Gennady Golovkin, but, you know,  it doesn't always have to be a free-swinging guy from the bar."

It's clear that while many would like to put Golovkin in the category of a brawler with wide-open defense, and no patience to do anything but lay his power on the opponent, most in the know understand that he is really a much more professional and subtle operator by nature. B. J. was spot-on in this one.
