Boxing Hall Of Shame: Lazarte & Rioters VS Claudio & Casimero

In February of 2012, Mar del Plata, Argentina, the old Argentinian insect known as Luis Alberto Lazarte, among the sport's most flagrantly dirty and tiny fighters, took on young Filipino John Riel Casimero for one chaotic evening that ended in this way:

Reportedly, Lazarte, while being stopped for a 10th-round TKO, innocently asked referee Eddie Claudio if he wanted to make it out alive. Thereabouts, a riot happened. The IBF sanctioned this bout and handed down a decision that they'd not be involved in another Lazarte match, anywhere in the world, for life. Lazarte was about forty-years-old by this point however, and the WBA had no problem sanctioning his bouts afterward. Casimero, Sean Gibbons (Casimero's corner man) and referee Claudio were all assaulted. Gibbons had a broken rib, and Claudio needed stitches, according to Dan Rafael. This was not one of boxing's more glorious nights, let alone Argentina's. At least the ring was furnished.

Roman Gonzalez VS Omar Salado: Sportsmanship GIF Spotlight

On the sixteenth of July, 2011, one of the finest products of this era, Roman Gonzalez, defended his major Light Flyweight title against against battle-tested veteran Omar Salado. In the typical spirit of sportsmanship from Gonzalez, it occurs to him to hold the towel to his bleeding foe's eye, when all was said and done. What a guy is Chocolatito. At the tale end of the GIF, you can see him turn away, shaking his head, as if to say "What did I do to this poor guy?" He recently made his HBO debut after years of being one of the best fighters in boxing, by crushing the excellent former champion Edgar Sosa. Congratulations to him on that.

Ricardo Lopez VS Myung-Sup Park, Wild Miss Or Setup? GIF Spotlight

Legendary undefeated Minimumweight and Light Flyweight champion Ricardo "Finito" Lopez, in a wild 1st round kayo on the Showtime Network. He is taking down title challenger and South Korean regional champion Myung-Sup Park, the seventh of December, 1996. Park was dazed and bloodied after the knockdown, a left hook to the jaw, following a seemingly wild, lead overhand right and a stepping on Park's left foot. He is allowed to continue, but much as the commentators said, I agree that Referee Chuck Hassett seemed to very quickly second-guess allowing Park back to action, and called it moments after he resumed. He was absorbing big shots from the first exchange and was as far out of his depth in one round as their records would indicate he would be. Park was 11-4, Lopez was 44-0. But Lopez handled the show excitingly and never opened the door to a bizarre upset. He just put on as much of a show as Park could take.
