Boxing Hall Of Shame: Lazarte & Rioters VS Claudio & Casimero

In February of 2012, Mar del Plata, Argentina, the old Argentinian insect known as Luis Alberto Lazarte, among the sport's most flagrantly dirty and tiny fighters, took on young Filipino John Riel Casimero for one chaotic evening that ended in this way:

Reportedly, Lazarte, while being stopped for a 10th-round TKO, innocently asked referee Eddie Claudio if he wanted to make it out alive. Thereabouts, a riot happened. The IBF sanctioned this bout and handed down a decision that they'd not be involved in another Lazarte match, anywhere in the world, for life. Lazarte was about forty-years-old by this point however, and the WBA had no problem sanctioning his bouts afterward. Casimero, Sean Gibbons (Casimero's corner man) and referee Claudio were all assaulted. Gibbons had a broken rib, and Claudio needed stitches, according to Dan Rafael. This was not one of boxing's more glorious nights, let alone Argentina's. At least the ring was furnished.
